“I actually said that, didn’t I? Well then, I would have to admit I was utterly right.”

Derwood J. Tugbottom

The audacious and eccentric, retired London City Hall senior official, Derwood J. Tugbottom, who was first introduced to readers in 2012’s unforgettable adult comedy short, The Misadventures of Derwood Tugbottom, is back in this hilarious follow-up, entitled, Derwood Returns. The bubbling and pretentious Englishman, known for his staunch outlook and demanding ways, decides to return to the picturesque village of Vinehaven on the Lake, where he takes up residence in the swinging Sunset Villa Retirement Center, located directly across the road from the infamous Anchors Away, of which he hastily departed two years earlier. Now he is back, with a hard learned lesson beneath his belt, and hopes of finding the life that escaped him on his initial try.

I am planning my third collection of traditional and contemporary poetry for publication later this summer, and this will be my complete collection. The title is still pending, and at the moment I am using a working cover, but as this is set to be my final collection, I am planning a surprise for the actual cover. I often use poetry as therapy whenever I’m experiencing difficulty in my life and hoping to find an escape, as well as a healing outlet, and you will find this exercise throughout the many roads the poems take. Maybe you will find your own path within the prose you read. Poetry can be many colors, flavors, and textures, weaving purpose within rhythmic measurement, and they are always a pleasurable journey to create, and to experience. Please visit my official poetry site at: http://poetrypoem.com/cgi-bin/index.pl?sitename=rusty5&item=home&poetry=true and enjoy.

From the Prologue

Autumn Leeves is married to a man old enough to be her father, yet she feels relatively happy – at least safe – that is until her aging mother passed away in early January of 1980. It has now been eight months since that happened, and thirty four year-old Autumn is finding it impossible to cope with. She had always managed to face things head-on, doing whatever was necessary to move forward and find her path. But this was different, far different from anything she had ever been asked to endure. When it happened she had felt alone – totally alone – feeling as if she had been immersed into a sea of grief and despair whose only job was to suck her down, implode her lungs, and stifle her life.

It appeared her husband Cyril Landon could care less, for he is totally consumed with his precious Kentucky racing stables, caring little, if any for the needs of anyone, much less his grieving wife. The trials throughout his life have hardened him. His thoroughbreds are now his life, his pride and joy, and the bases of his enormous wealth. This carries great weight with him, an importance that only he and his housekeeper could understand the reasoning behind, and he’d be damned if he would apologize for it.

The bold and daring Duff Taylor now finds himself top jockey at Landon Lawns Stables, and living the life of wealth in the posh suite above the main tack room. Arrogance, accompanied with a vile temper precedes him, and he unfortunately likes to use his riding crop more than he should, and not just on horses. He also has a secret; one that he will do anything to keep under wraps. He has become accustomed to his life style, his standing in equestrian circles, as well as among the ladies. This lifestyle has made him interesting to others; one in particular.

Cyril’s growing demands have become impossible to live with, and he is doing himself no favors by totally discarding Autumn’s needs. She realizes he is aging, and she is trying to be understanding, but she needs comforting, the kind of comfort that he is not giving, so she turns elsewhere. A tack room is most important to any stable. It holds harness, many lengths and weights of it. It holds highly polished halters, and bridles with cold, steel bits. It also holds a secret; one that will affect every person at Landon Lawns Stables…

A full scale novel does not happen overnight; sometimes it take years to complete – Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary – which took me over ten years from first ideas to actual completion, is a good example, and almost the same amount of time for Willow’s Walk. There is no way of knowing the time frame; it greatly depends on life itself, and time allowed creating. But The Perils of Autumn ‘will’ materialize, and I am very much looking forward to returning to Landon Lawns Stables, located outside Lexington, Kentucky, to continue the story centering around LPN, Autumn Leeves, Cyril Landon, owner of Landon Lawns, and Duff Taylor, the stable’s arrogant, and hot-headed jockey.

I would very much like to hear from all my readers who enjoy my work, and continue to support it, of which I am most beholding to you for. But I’d love to hear from you, whether it is with questions – which I try my best to answer as best I can – or simply a comment of your choosing. It’s always nice to hear from you, so I hope you will take me up on my offer.

Let us all hope the summer will bless us with sunshine, beautiful blue skies, rain “when required”, and an endless supply of laughter and fun. Enjoy every second!
