Romantic Fiction Author Rusty Blackwood’s August Newsletter 2017 …

Greetings everyone! It’s almost impossible to think that the end of August arrives the day after tomorrow. Where has this month gone? In fact where has the summer gone? The last few days here in Niagara have been a bit on the cool side, more so than it usually is this time of year, but it is a clear reminder of what is soon to come. The squirrels are busy, which usually means the time for winter preparations grows closer. We are fortunate here in Niagara; our weather is usually kind by standard, yet not everyone is that fortunate, so please say a prayer for Texas.

As most of you know, I take the summer off from public events, meaning I don’t do book-signings or readings and I relish that break, for I am busy enough with those requirements throughout the rest of the year. But with September around the corner, I have begun booking my event calendar, beginning this year on September 23rd at Coles in Seaway Mall, Welland, Ontario. I shall be there between 1 to 4:30 pm with my 5 star award-winning romantic fiction drama, Willow’s Walk, as we welcome fall, as well as all those who happen by. If you happen to be in the area, I hope you will come by and say hello. Please take this link for further info:  https://www.facebook.com/events/928404347298744/

‘Retirement isn’t always a peaches and cream delight. It can often be nothing more than sour grapes.’
“I actually said that, didn’t I? Well then, I would have to admit I was utterly correct.”
– Derwood J. Tugbottom

I was so pleased in July to release a second comedy, entitled, Derwood Returns, which is a follow-up to 2012’s comedy short, The Misadventures of Derwood Tugbottom; a humorous story based on an outspoken character from my brother’s imagination. Derwood Justice Tugbottom is a retired senior City Hall official from London, England, who is forced into retirement and decides to spend it in a posh retirement center in the fictional Vine-Haven-on-the-Lake, located on the Niagara peninsula on the southern shores of Lake Ontario. Things don’t exactly work out as planned for the audacious senior, and he returns to England. Yet he is not satisfied, and decides to return to Vine-Haven-on-the-Lake, which sets the scene for Derwood Returns. Both of these delightful stories, sure to tickle your funny bone, are available in Paperback edition at the online bookstores of www.createspace.com, www.amazon.com, and www.amazon.ca. Derwood Returns is also available in Kindle edition at both Amazons. Just type the title into the search bar at any site.

After an ongoing hiatus from my upcoming title, The Perils of Autumn, a full length romantic fiction drama, set in the 1970s and 80s that primarily takes place at Landon Lawns Stables, a fictional thoroughbred racing stable located twenty two miles outside of Lexington, Kentucky, I have finally resumed work on it. I must say that I’m fired up about this engulfing story, and I can’t wait to bring it to my readers. In the meantime, please enjoy this short excerpt from the beginning of Chapter 2: From Gloucestershire to Lexington

“The horses are in the gate – the buzzer poised to ring … This race is going to be a tight one, folks, but I’d put my money on the sorrel stallion, ridden by none other than last year’s Triple Crown winner, Cyril Landon! I don’t mind telling you, folks, this young jockey has got what it takes; a winner in every sense of the word! The tension is rising. The sorrel appears somewhat nervous, pawing the ground frantically as if he can barely wait for the buzzer to sound – rein him in, Landon – hold him tight! Steady … steady … The buzzer sounds. They’re off!” At the sound of the loud buzzer, Cyril Landon swiftly opened his eyes and rose for the day, shaking his head in dismay with the realization it was just a dream, another damn dream, taunting him with unrealized desires.

I will never stop stating the importance of an excellent marketing and publicity representative, and I have often praised the excellence of mine, Mr. Don McCauley, of the Free Publicity Focus Group – mind you, nothing is free, but the awareness and online presence that is brought to a writer’s persona and work is well worth the cost – and I am most beholding to Mr. McCauley for what he has brought to mine. Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary, my long fought for, 818 page grand scale novel, published and released in 2013, is set in Paris France at the dawn of the 21st Century, and tells the sweeping and unforgettable saga of two star-crossed soul mates who once again find each other, but unfortunately find each other just in time to be thrown into the most horrific ordeal of their lives.  I would like to thank all of you whom continue to support my work in the many ways that you do, through sharing news, reposting pictures and write-ups, and through purchase of my work. In today’s dog-eat-dog world of independently published books, many authors, including me, depend on online coverage to bring notoriety to our names, and sales to our work. We do not have a huge publishing House behind us to pave the way, nor do we have generous monetary advances to continue with our next title, or a constant flow of royalties, so I again thank you for every gesture you give me.

School begins next week, and with that come excited little feet often running where they shouldn’t, so please be aware as you drive along our streets and roads. And as always, support your local authors, as well as all your local talent in the Arts.

Please ‘Like’ me on Facebook, and ‘Follow’ me on Twitter.

“See you next month!”
